  • Description

VOTERS WENT TO THE POLLS IN OREGON'S REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY FRIDAY (15 MAY) TO MAKE THEIR CHOICE FROM A FULL SELECTION OF CONTENDERS FOR THE JOB. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ANY STATE ALL SIX LEADING CONTENDERS ARE ON THE PRINTED BALLOT PAPERS.

FAVOURED TO WIN IS U.S. AMBASSADOR HENRY CABOT LODGE, WHOSE SUPPORTERS HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD TO WRITE HIS NAME IN ON BALLOTS IN OTHER PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES.

THIS FOOTAGE SHOWS LODGE DURING THE VISIT THIS WEEK TO SOUTH VIETNAM OF DEFENCE SECRETARY ROBERT MCNAMARA. HE IS SHOWN IN VARIOUS SCENES WITH MCNAMARA AND WITH MAJOR GENERAL NGUYEN KHANH, THE HEAD OF THE SOUTH VIETNAM GOVERNMENT. THIS FILM IS ROUGH CUT FOR YOUR POSSIBLE USE IN THE EVENT LODGE WINS THE PRIMARY.

(IN FACT CABOT LODGE CAME SECOND TO GOVERNOR ROCKEFELLER)
