    Ghana's junior Minister of Labour and Cooperatives, Mr Alex Aboagyve da Costa, on Monday (3 January) opened a five day international conference for women members of cooperatives at the University of Ghana at Legon, near Accra.

    He said women had a vital role to play in the development of their countries and advised them to form themselves into cooperative organisations.

    SYNOPSIS: Women from Sierra Leone and Ghana attended the opening of the first West African Conference for women members of cooperatives near Accra last Monday. thirty delegates attended the five-day seminar. Among the topics discussed was the role of women in cooperatives' development and what the aim of cooperatives should be.

    The conference was opened by Ghana's Junior Minister of Labour and Cooperatives, Mister Alex Aboagyve da Costa, who emphasised the contribution that women could make to the cooperatives system. He said women had a vital role to play in the development of their countries. He urged them to form their own cooperatives.

    Mrs Muriel Russell, Secretary for women and youth activities, said that women should now take their place on executive bodies.
