  • Description

For 15 years more than 26,00 artillery shells, together with other ammunition, have been lying in the old cellars of the former Victoria Hotel in the centre of Lublin, Poland, unknown to the town's inhabitants.

The ammunition, dumped by Germans before their withdrawal in 1944 and intended to be used to blow up the town centre, was discovered by chance only recently.

A small group of army engineers have been working day and right for three weeks to remove this threat to life in Lublin. The engineers were afterwards thanked by Minister for Internal Affairs Wicha for carrying out their arduous task.
