INTERIOR MV: Tanzanian ambassador to United nations Salim A . Salim addressing Security Council in English with other delegates listening. (3 shots)

GV: (MUTE) Security Council in session.

MV: Zambian ambassador to UN Gwendoline Konie speaking in English.

SALIM: "This latest settlement, contrived by the rebel Smith, is no settlement. It is certainly no (indistinct) to the resolution of the conflict, rather it is a prescription for an escalation of the conflict and a broadening of its dimensions in magnitude. In a nutshell, it is the latest and certainly the more deadly in a series of manoeuvres, the international community has ??? come to expect from Mr smith and his collaborators. This latest move by the minority regime should therefore be viewed in its proper context, taking into account the historical evolution of the situation. Viewed in that context, therefore, one can only come up with one singular conclusion, this is that first with the mounting pressures of the ended struggle as well as the increasing international isolation in the position, Mr Smith has clearly realised that the old manoeuvres and the old tactics of absolute obstinacy and arrogance will lead him nowhere. Hence the new manoeuvres and the new tactics."

KONIE: "Certainly, Rhodesia, Mr President, is today fast drawing towards an ugly holocaust. Smith has intensified his repression against the black majority in zimbabwe. Every Zimbabwean, particularly in the so-called protected villages, is a virtual prisoner. The very basic human rights that the rest of the world would take for granted are violated and denied the people of Zimbabwe, by the agents of Smith. Innocent men, women and children are tortured humiliated and usually murdered in cold blood. Smith continues to mobilize for total ??? against the gallant freedom fighters of Zimbabwe. He is committing more men, more sophisticated weapons and more money, including bribes, into the war against the Zombabwean Liberation movement.
