  • Description

THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF THE ZANZIBAR REVOLUTION WAS CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT TANZANIA YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) WITH RALLIES, PARADES AND DANCING. TWENTY-FOUR POLITICAL PRISONERS, HELD IN ZANZIBAR SINCE THE REVOLT, WERE FREED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO MARK THE ANNIVERSARY.

MIDNIGHT GUN SALUTES AND FIREWORKS HERALDED THE DAWN OF THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS, AND SHORTLY AFTER DAYBREAK SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT ATTENDED PRAYERS IN THE ISLAND'S INJUMAA MOSQUE.

AT A RALLY ON THE MAINLAND, THE MINISTER FOR REGIONAL ADMINISTRATION, MR. OSCAR KAMBONA, SAID THAT 1967 MUST BE THE YEAR OF MOZAMBIQUE'S LIBERATION. HE SAID THAT IF MOZAMBIQUE "FREEDOM FIGHTERS" FAILED TO DISLODGE THE PORTUGUESE FROM THE TERRITORY, TANZANIANS WOULD GO TO THEIR AID.

MR. RASHID KAWAWA, TANZANIA'S SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT AND MINISTER OF DEFENCE, NATIONAL SERVICE AND JUSTICE TOLD THE RALLY THAT TANZANIANS NEED HAVE NO FEAR OF THE PORTUGUESE.
