Background: South Vietnamese forces were on top-priority 'red alert' standby in the Central Highlands last week (to Saturday February 19) in anticipation of a massive communist offensive.

The critical area is in the region where the borders of South Vietnam, Laos and the Khmer Republic merge. This film was shot near Dak To, where Saigon forces are in easy shelling distance of the border. Military activity includes scores of helicopters used for lighting strikes by small, heavily-armed troop patrols in remote jungle areas.

By Sunday (February 20) there was no sign of the expected offensive, which was thought to have been planned for the Lunar New Year Haw Festivities this month. Vietnamese build-up on the other side of the border just above the demilitarised zone.
