    Background: The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly rejected independence for the Transkei from South Africa. In a vote Tuesday (October 26), only the United States abstained and South African not present in the chamber. The Nigerian representative, Mr. Leslie Harriman, introduced the resolution against Transkei independence.
