  • Description

In Manitoba, Canada, April 14, helicopters take off at regular intervals to survey flood damage and locate ice jams responsible for overflowing rivers and streams.

Near Portage La Prairie, twenty families have been evacuated from their homes and there is no indication of improvement in the flood situation. Highways and farmland have been flooded by three feet of water in some areas - but experts have advised against blasting the ice at this time.

Farmland near the town of Whoop-and-Holler has been particularly hard-hit by the floodwaters - and west of Portage La Prairies, the town of Macgregor is still plagued by flooded streets. At some points the water is almost two feet deep.

In South Transcona, near Winnipeg, water surrounds about 40 homes and the public school has been closed. Officials are now keeping a close watch on the Red River below Winnipeg.
