Background: The Barcelona football star Johann Cruyff -- the most expensive player in the world -- impressed Arsenal fans during Tuesday night's friendly testimonial match in London for Arsenal player George Armstrong. Barcelona bought Cruyff from the Dutch Club, Ajax Amsterdam, last October for a staggering GBP 930,000 (2,232,000 dollars). He has already helped them to the top of the Spanish League.
Arsenal went ahead in the second half when England international Alan Ball scored a penalty after Gallego had handled. Then Cruyff, who had already shown touches of superb skill, made two goals in ten minutes. His well placed free kick caused a muddle in the Arsenal defence which Asensi ended with a firm shot Barcelona went further ahead four minutes later when Sotil headed Cruyff's header past Barnett in the Arsenal goal.
Substituts Barrios then came in for Cruyff and Tome headed a third goal from a corner a quarter of an hour from the end to complete a convincing 3-1 win for Barcelona.
Armstrong, a Scot, has played for Arsenal more than 500 times in the last 13 years. The 36,000 crowd at the game earned him about GBP 10,000.
