  • Description

About 3,000 demonstrators marched on the United States Embassy in Rome today (Sunday) carrying large photographs of the North Vietnamese President, Ho Chi Minh, and chanting anti-American slogans. Some 57 of the demonstrators were arrested in a clash with police.

The demonstrators scuffled with police who blocked their advance with the help of a wall of Army trucks parked across the street bumper to bumper. The demonstrators then turned towards the fashionable Piazza Barberini, where some of them stoned the offices of the American Export Line and Trans World Airlines, breaking all the T.W.A. windows.

Of those arrested, 55 were released tonight but will have to face charges of taking part in a seditious demonstration and damaging property. Three policemen were reported injured in the scuffles.
