MISS VORONINA HAS WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP THREE TIMES PREVIOUSLY IN 1957, 1958 AND IN 1962.

ANOTHER SOVIET ACE, VALENTINA STENINA, THE WORLD CHAMPION IN 1960 AND 1961, WAS SECOND AFTER THE OPENING DAY FOLLOWING HER WIN IN THE 1500 METRES. HER WINNING TIME WAS 2 MINUTES 27 POINT 5 SECONDS. SECOND WAS KAISER OF HOLLAND, WHILE ANOTHER RUSSIAN, L. OSTINSHEVA, WAS THIRD.
