    Early in the morning of 26th August, the Royal Marine Commandos backed by units of the Royal navy stationed at Malta staged a landing exercise at Hellika Bay admirablly suited for the purpose.

    The exercise was designed to land the marines as a concerning force for a major operation in order to land transport & fighting vehicles by means of a pier formed by a special craft carrying units of a Bailey Bridge.

    Pics show commandos landing from the assault craft coming ashore & deploying - while others establishing Beach HQ in radio communication with advanced units & met others busying themselves preparing the roadway to land the lighting vehicles.

    Field Marshall Montgomery accompanied by Admiral Sir Charles Lambe comes to the Bailey Bridge operation from the despatch vessel 'Surprise' by motor launch & watches the operation from there.
