Background: The London Designers Collections, a group of young talented designers, scooped the famous Italian and French fashion houses on Wednesday (17 March) presenting their views on designs for winter 1976-77.
It was a gamble, because it's still spring and most shops haven't yet got out their summer clothes.
But the group decided the gamble was worth it, because now no-one can claim that they had merely copied the French shows.
Five designers formed the group three years ago. It became very successful, and has expanded to include 27 designers.
The clothes are sold all over Europe.
Their general theme for next winter -- very bright colours, combined with black and a long, lean shape, with long jackets and straight skirts, and skirts above trousers, with ankle boots and bright coloured woollen socks.
SYNOPSIS: It is still only Spring, but a London fashion design group took the lead on the famous French and Italian fashion houses by showing its views on designs for next winter in London on Wednesday. This black evening dress was designed by Brazilian-born Anna Beltrao. The accent is on black with bright purple ribbons throughout her collection -- clearly influenced by the South American carnival.
The fashion group is known as the London Designers Collections, which was started by five designers three years ago. It was so successful the group took in others, and it now has 27 designers.
This hand-painted chiffon evening dress was designed by Benny Ong, who says that this year all his clothes are the "dream of aquarius", hence the painted fishes. He uses green and orange-brown to revive the lost romantic look.
Kay Cosserat features knitwear in bright colours combined with black for next winter. She combines her designs with popular bright coloured woollen socks and ankle length boots. All her knitwear is very loose.
Bruce Oldfield designed this blue and rose coloured dress with a loose wrap-around skirt. His clothes have a distinguished look, and are already sold all over the world. They show 1920's influence. Film star Charlotte Rampling is one of his clients.
