Background: To mark the 10th anniversary of the Korean war outbreak, South Korean troops and bands marched in parades in Seoul June 25,while at Panmunjom - in the no man's land dividing North and South Korea - Communist representatives of the armistice commission called a further of the not infrequent meetings with the U.N. Command.

South Koreans regard the Panmunjom meetings as a Communist propaganda platform. They also remember the experience of war, invasion from the North, nearly a million casualties, including U.S. and UN troops, and of their divided country.

Today South Koreans acclaim their army as a well-trained dependable defence force far removed in the ten years from the ill-trained, ill-equipped men who faced the invasion.
