Background: Prince Norodom Sihanouk, head of the Paking-based Cambodian government-in-exile, arrived in Algiers on Wednesday(28 June) at the start of a 10-day official visit.
The Prince was greeted on his arrival by Algerian President Houari Boumedienne, with whom he will hold high level discussions on the general situation in Asia and Cambodia -- now the Khmer Republic -- in particular.
Later, during a dinner given in Prince Sihanouk's honour, President Boumedienne said all Algerians supported the Kingdom of Cambodia in its war of liberation.
Prince Sihanouk was overthrown in March 1970 while on a visit to Peking, People's Republic of China. Six months later the Khmer Republic was officially proclaimed with General Lon Nol as its new Prime Minister.
During his stay in Algiers, the Prince will attend celebrations on 5 July to mark the tenth anniversary of Algerian independence.
