The national swimming championships of the Ivory Coast have been held in Abidjan over two days (29-30 May). Among the spectators were the director of the cabinet of the Ministry of Youth, Popular Education and Sport, M. George Koffi, and the wife of the President of the National Assembly, Mme. Yace.
During the meeting M. Koffi presented the National Swimming Cup to the captain of the winning team. The Cup had been competed for in a series of events two weeks earlier.
SYNOPSIS: The Ivory Coast has held it's national swimming championships in the capital of Abidjan. The events were held over two days, May the 29th and 30th.
The 100 metres freestyle.....these events were held on the first day of the championships.
This event was won by Mikema Issauf of the Centre d'Animation Sportive. His time....two minutes three and five-tenths seconds.
The butterfly event....this was also over 100 metres. It was won by Denis Kakou of the Red Star Club. He finished the race exhausted.
His time was one minute, 26 and nine-tenths seconds.
The women's breaststroke....There were 12 events held on the first day of the championships. More were due to have been held, but a tropical storm ended the competition for the day. The event was won easily by Beatrice Lobognon. Her time; one minute, 46 and seven-tenths seconds.
During the events M. Georges Koffi of the Ministry of Youth, Popular Education and Sport, presented the National Swimming Cup to the winning captain. The Cup was competed for two weeks earlier.
