  • Description

Egyptians must not allow the present Middle East ceasefire to become permanent, President Anwar Sadat warned information heads at a Cairo conference yesterday (Saturday). He added that peace could only be maintained if the agreement was reached on Israeli withdrawal from occupied areas.

The Egyptian leader, who was accompanied by Vice-Presidents Hussein El Shafei and Ali Sabri, declared that all Egyptians should be prepared for "all-out" war if a withdrawal timetable was not agreed. "The next six months will be not only decisive but fateful," he warned.

President Satiate added that the United Arab Republic is ready to wage any sort of war with Israel and had already carried out battle manoeuvres along the Suez Canal.

The current ceasefire, due to expire on February 5, had been used to consolidate the strength of Egyptian forces--including the installation of Soviet missiles and the instruction of Egyptian personnel in the use of the missiles--according to the Israelis.
