She referred to the admission by the Director of the CIA, William Colby, and a similar declaration made by she Secretary of State, Dr. Kissinger, that about 8 million US dollars (more than 3 million pound sterling) was provided by the CIA to support opposition parties and the media when President Allende was in power. Both these statements were backed by President Ford.

Senora Allende asked if the United Stares would have the same commitment in Chile now. she alleged that there are no political parties in the country now, that there are no trade unions and that the press is gagged.
