    According to a Reuter's news report President Allende of Chile has 'displeased' the Ecuador Government by having a private meeting with anti-Government left-wing student leaders while on a three-day official visit to Ecuador. The report was attributed to 'government would probably be dismissed for failing to prevent an incident during President Allende's arrival in Ecuador, in which ten students were arrested. They had cheered President Allende, the Western world's first democratically-elected Marxist leader, and booed Ecuadorian President Jose Velasco. President Allende arrived on Tuesday (August 24).

    The visit is President Allende's second trip outside Chile since taking office ten months ago. In July, he visited Argentina for a meeting with President Lanusse, and from Ecuador he was due to go on to Colombia and Peru.

They were part of a crowd which had cheered President Allende, the Western world's first democratically-elected Marxist leader, and booed Ecuador's President Jose Velasco. later, following the Chilean president's unscheduled meeting with the three student leaders and a university lecturer at the home of the Chilean Ambassador to Ecuador, Dr Allende called off a scheduled visit to a cultural centre of left-wing intellectuals. Instead, he unexpectedly met with President Velasco at the Government Palace.

    President Allende's visit to Ecuador, which ended on Thursday, was his second trip outside Chile since he came into power ten months ago. His first was a visit to Argentina in July, where he met Argentinean president Alejandro Lanusse.

    From Ecuador, President Allende was due to go on to Colombia and Peru. In Ecuador, he attended several social and diplomatic functions with top officials, ministers, and military personnel, and exchanged credentials with Chilean leaders at various receptions.
