  • Description

A Caravelle of the Royal Jordanian Airlines brought 68 hijacked men, women and children into Cyprus last night ( Friday ) after their release by Palestinian commandos.

A second flight expected in Cyprus with more hostages was cancelled by Amman without explanation.

Nicosia airport authorities received news of the cancellation from Jordan as American, West German and other diplomats were still standing by at Nicosia airport.

The passengers, tired and worn after a week of danger, filed slowly down the aircraft steps, but had no comment to make about their recent experiences. They were flying on the Swissair DC8 and the TWA Boeing 707 when their aircraft were hijacked.

They included Americans, Germans, Yugoslavs, Turks, Greeks, Pakistanis and Indians. Most were women, children and non-Europeans released from the first two aircraft to land at the guerrilla's Revolution Airport. Many of the women who left male members of their families in the hands of the commandos were in tears they entered the airport terminal.

Mrs. Louise Feshe of Rochester, New York, nursed a broken arm received as she leapt from the Swissair jet as it came to rest in a cloud of dust on the Jordan desert last Sunday night.

She said she had received good treatment at an Amman hospital where she had been taken by the guerrillas, but her 16-year-old son had been kept behind among the hostages at Revolution Airport. American Ambassador David Popper and U.S. Embassy staff at the airport said they would be arranging hotel accommodation and travel home for all American passengers.
