    THE LOTUS EUROPA IS AN ANGLO-FRENCH PROJECT. BY BUYING 40 PER CENT OF THE PARTS IN COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES, MR. CHAPMAN BELIEVES HE HAS BY-PASSED THE TARIFF BARRIER, SO THAT HIS NEW CAR COMPETE WITH EUROPEAN-MADE SPORTS CARS. THE EUROPA IS POWERED BY A 1470 c.c. HOTTED-UP ENGINE AND GEARBOX MADE BY RENAULT IN FRANCE. BATCHES OF THESE PARTS ARE SENT TO THE LOTUS FACTORY IN ENGLAND, WHERE THEY ARE FITTED INTO A LOTUS-DESIGNED CHASSIS AND ONE-PIECE GLASS FIBRE BODY.

    THE EUROPA, ONLY 3 FT 7 IN HIGH (ABOUT 1.12 METRES), TOUCHES 110 MILES (ABOUT 160 KILOMETRES) AN HOUR IN 21.7 SECS. AT A STEADY 60 MILES (ABOUT 95 KILOMETRES) AN HOUR, IT IS CLAIMED THAT ITS SPECIALLY-DESIGNED AERODYNAMIC LINES AND LOW DRAG GIVE IT A CONSUMPTION OF 53 MILES (ABOUT 85 KILOMETRES) TO THE GALLON.
