    THE CONFERENCE WAS OPENED BY THE JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. SHIINA. FOREIGN MINISTRY OFFICIALS REGARD THE TALKS AS PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT IN VIEW OF THE FORTHCOMING SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

    THE PRESENT TALKS ARE THE FIRST OF THEIR KIND FOR TWO YEARS. AMONG THE TOPICS BEING DISCUSSED ARE RECENT POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN AFRICA; THE AFRICAN NATIONS' ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE ADMISSION OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA TO THE UNITED NATIONS; AND ECONOMIC RELATIONS BETWEEN JAPAN AND THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES.
