    A BRITISH COURT OF ARBITRATION SET UP TO SETTLE THE FRONTIER DISPUTE BETWEEN THE ARGENTINA AND CHILE, UNDER A TREATY DATING BACK TO THE DAYS OF QUEEN VICTORIA, IS MEETING IN PRIVATE AT LANCASTER HOUSE, IN LONDON.

    THE DISPUTE CONCERNS SOME 40 MILES (64 KILOMETRES) OF REMOTE FRONTIER IN THE HIGH ANDES. THIS WAS LEFT UNSETTLED WHEN AN AWARD WAS MADE BY KING EDWARD VII ON NOVEMBER 20TH, 1902.

    LAST SPRING THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT APPOINTED MEMBERS OF THE COURT UNDER LORD MCNAIR, WHO AS FORMERLY PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE.

    MEANWHILE CHILE AND THE ARGENTINE HAVE SUBMITTED MEMORANDA, COUNTER MEMORANDA AND VARIOUS OTHER DOCUMENTS, AND A FIELD MISSION SENT OUT BY COURT HAS INSPECTED THE DISPUTED AREA. IT WAS ALSO PHOTOGRAPHED FROM THE AIR.

    THE TALKS BEGAN A WEEK AGO, AND ARE EXPECTED TO LAST FOR TWO MORE WEEKS. AFTERWARDS THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT WILL ANNOUNCE ITS DECISION.
