    RELATIVES OF ABLE-SEAMAN PARKER SAILED WITH THE VAMPIRE FOR THE BURIAL SERVICE WHICH WAS CONDUCTED OUTSIDE OF SYDNEY HEADS.

    THE BURIAL AT SEA COINCIDED WITH THE BURIAL OF THE OTHER TWO VICTIMS - CAPTAIN D.H. STEVENS AND LIEUTENANT H.D. COOKE.

    ABOARD THE SHIP FOR THE SERVICE WERE SURVIVORS FROM THE VOYAGER - SHIPMATES OF ABLE-SEAMAN PARKER. A ROMAN CATHOLIC CHAPLAIN, CONDUCTED THE SERVICE, ATTENDED BY REAR-ADMIRAL BECHER, AND COMMANDER OF THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER MELBOURNE.

    AS THE SOLEMN SERVICE WAS CONDUCTED A SCHOOL OF PORPOISES PLAYED ROUND THE SHIP. WITH THE FINAL WORDS FROM THE CHAPLAIN, THE BODY WAS COMMITTED TO THE SEA.

    SEAMEN OF THE VAMPIRE FIRED A VOLLEY OF RIFLE SHOTS AND THE SHIP'S BUGLER PLAYED THE "PAST POST" AS ADMIRAL BECHER SPOKE TO RELATIVES.

    THE MEMORIAL CHAPEL AT THE NAVAL SHORE STATION WAS CROWDED WITH OFFICERS AND MEN, RELATIVES, LIEUTENANT H.D. COOKE. THE PROTESTANT CHAPLAIN OF THE FLEET CONDUCTED THE SERVICE. THE SERVICE WAS ALSO ATTENDED BY REAR-ADMIRAL BECHER AND CAPTAIN ROBERTSON WHO HAD COME ASHORE FROM THE VAMPIRE.

    MEANWHILE, THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER "MELBOURNE" WAS TAKEN UP SYDNEY HARBOUR TO COCKATOO ISLAND FOR REPAIRS.
