Background: Eight leading petrol exporting countries met in Vienna yesterday (Wednesday) at the biannual meeting of O.P.E.C. (Organisation of Oil Exporting Countries).
The meeting was held behind closed doors and there was no new conference after the meeting. A spokesman for O.P.E.C. said that a statement would be issued on the 20th of December. It was expected that one of the subjects under discussion would be the question of oil sanctions on Rhodesia.
At the first of this year's two conferences, the member states decided that some control over production was necessary to halt the falling prices caused by world surpluses.
At yesterday's conference Indonesia's delegation was headed by Dr Sanger, Iran by Dr Jashmid Amuzgar, Iraq by Dr Saleh Kubba, Kuwait by Mr Ahmed Sayed Omar, Libya by Mr Mohammed Mansouri also President of this conference, Qatar by Dr Hassan Kamel, Saudi Arabia by Mr Ahmed Zaki Yamani and Venezuela by Dr Manuel Perez Guerrero.
