    Background: President N'Garta Tombalbaye of Chad arrived in Garoua in North Cameroun on Tuesday (9 October) for brief talks with president Ahmadoy Ahidjo.

    A joint communique issued after the talks said the two heads of state discussed current African and international problems, and bilateral relations between Chad and Cameroun. The two leaders also expressed concern about the new conflict in the Middle East.

    They reaffirmed their conviction that international conflicts must be settled by peaceful negotiations while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states concerned.
