U.K. The Ernest Brummer collection of art treasure, a collection of art masterpieces from Greek and Renaissance artists, is going on sale in Switzerland on October 19, 1979. The total value of the collection is estimated to be about ten and a half million dollars (U.S.) or about five million pounds sterling.
SYNOPSIS: A selection of the finest examples from the Ernest Brummer collection was shown at the Spink showroom in London, where is aroused intense interest.
The collection is regarded as probably the last of its type in the world. It consists of over six hundred pieces and includes fine ivory, Limoges enamels, rare books and Greek and Roman antiquities.
The oldest item in the London show was this Egyptian wood statuette. However every material known in sculpture is represented in the Brummer collection.
The whole collection was amassed by the brothers Joseph and Ernest Brummer in this first half of this century. In the last forty years almost no major exhibition has been held without some contribution from the Brummer collection.
Many of the items are unique, while others rival outstanding pieces in the most prestigious American and European collections.
The entire Ernest Brummer collection goes on sale in Zurich on October 19. The sale has been arranged by Galerie Spink in Zurich, in collaboration with Galerie Koller The complete collection will be on view at the Kunsthaus in Zurich from October 5 to 14.
