Background: Otumfuo Opuko Ware The Second.... the much travelled King of the Ashanti Nation.... made an historic visit to the Italian President, Giovanni Leone, on Thursday (19 September) at the Quirinali Palace in Rome.
The 54-years-old King, who is President of the Ghanaian National House of Chiefs (the Upper House) is on a two-week official visit to Italy.
A communique said the Chief and the President discussed problems of common interest and expressed satisfaction "about the contribution of Italians living in Ghana to the progress of the country."

Otumfuo Opoku Ware was making an informal courtesy call on President Leone, to discuss problems of common interest. The much-travelled fifty-four years old King, who is President of the Ghanaian National House of Chiefs, is making a two-week goodwill visit to Italy. While in Italy, Otumfuo Opoku Ware ha??? also had informal discussions with officials of the giant Fiat car factory.
He's after sponsorship for technical students from Ghana to come to Italy to study modern methods of industrial production.
No official announcement has been made about the likelyhood of such a scheme, but a spokesman for the Ghanaian Embassy in Rome said his Government was hopeful.
Before leaving Rome on September twenty-sixth, Otumfuo Opoku Ware is scheduled to have an audience with the Pope.
