Although this remote control system of the electric engine is adopted by the French Railway back in 1955, however, the Japanese national railway Corporation has succeeded practically shunting the electric engine which pull the freight cars this year.
The first experiment of shunting the electric engine by remote control was made at Utsunomiya Switchyard, 115 kilometers north of Tokyo last year and they had confident to utilise this system for practical purpose and displayed for the press people recently.
The operator in the switchyard can operate the electric engine without any driver within 1.2 kilometers district which shall be used shunting the freightcars in the switchyard of the district railway stations.
This remote control system requires only 0.5 kilowatt output and very simple one and the operator can control go and back of the engine very smoothly which used to be relied on the driver, conductor and switchboard man etc.
Freight car operation was so behind compare with that of the passenger car so that the national railway authorities would like to speed up operation of freight care all over the line and the firstly they adopted this remote control shunting the electric engine with portable regulator like that of walkie-talkie which affects the running the electric engine go and backward of the freighter.
The operator regulates the speed of the electric engine and also control the engine to stop such as how many kilometers they run after whenever the operator wishes to stop or to connect other freight cars.
All the receiving set of the waves equipped with thee engine works automatically in accordance with the signal of the driver who sits down in the switchyard and the National railway authorities would like to use this remote control system in every switchyard in their line to save people.
