Tirana. Every year on May Day, the day of workers international solidarity a parade of the working people of the capital is held in the "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard. On this occasion, Tirana had been decorated with banners and various slogans greeting May Day and the victories achieved by our people with the Party Labour of Albania and Comrade Enver Hoxha at the head during these 35 years of freedom and independence.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Albania, Comrade Enver Hoxha, the President of the Presidium of the People's Assembly, Haxhi Lleshi, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Mehmet Shehu, and other leading comrades of the Party and the State took their places on the rostrum facing the premises of the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Albania. Also present on the rostrum were the foreign delegations which have come on the invitation of the Central Council of the Trade Unions of Albania to take part in the May Day celebrations as well as the titular heads and functionaries of the diplomatic representations accredited to the PSRA.
In this parade, the people of the capital once again displayed their steel unity with the Party of Labour and Comrade Enver Hoxha and the successes which they have achieved during these 35 years of people's power in the construction of socialism. The working class of Albania came to this May Day with a series of successes achieved in different sectors of the economy. All the successes and achievements are the fruit of the work and thought of our people who are working and fighting under the militant slogan, "To build socialism in the conditions of the imperialist-revisionist blockade, relying entirely on our own forces".
Here are some figures which speak of the achievements our people during these 33 years of people's power: between the years 1945 to 1978 in Albania 40,384 students have graduated from the higher schools and 189,314 from the secondary schools. In recent days the population of Albania passed the 2,500,000 mark. Albania is a country without taxes, where the health service is free of charge, where every home has electric light. Other achievements have been scored in the sector of agriculture which has been modernized and intensified.
Marching in the parade were squads of young men and women dressed in military uniform. In Albania all the people are soldiers and every one works under the slogan of the Party," the defence of the Homeland, the duty of all duties". Like the whole of the construction of socialism, the defence of the Homeland too, Albania basis on its own forces. This parade demonstrated once again the solidarity of the working people of Albania with the peoples of the world who are fighting for national freedom and independence in solidarity with the Marxist-Leninist parties everywhere in the world which are making a major contribution to the international communist and workers movement. As the slogans and banners carried in the parade demonstrated, the foreign policy of socialist Albania is a policy of a genuine socialist country which respects international rights and which seeks to live in peace and good neighbourly relations with other states, while fighting imperialism and reaction everywhere in the world, especially against the savages enemies of the peoples, American imperialism and Soviet and Chinese social imperialism.
This parade in which young people, sportsmen and women from the clubs of the capital, veterans and children took part, displayed once again the love which the Albanian people have for the Party of Labour of Albania which loyally defends the principles of Marxism-Leninism, the love of the whole people for the leader of the Party, Comrade Enver Hoxha.
