The Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Kishi arrived in Bonn July 16 by air from London for talks with Federal German leaders. Chancellor Adenauer, and Vice-Chancellor and Economics Minister Ludwig Erhard greeted him at the airport.
Their discussions were to centre on mainly economic questions aimed at laying the foundations for trade talks between the two countries due to begin in Tokyo July 22. The main problem in this field remains to balance trade between the two countries which suffers from a heavy German export surplus while still protecting Germany from a flood of low-priced goods.
The West German Press cordially welcomed Mr. Kishi's visit, stressing both countries had much in common through post-war recovery records.
Next day, July 17, the Prime Minister was leaving for Austria.
