VISNEWS filmed the exciting forty-sixth annual international cross-country championships at Lisbon, Portugal, Mar 21. England retained both team and individual titles scoring 40 points, and with their six best scorers in the first fifteen positions, the defending championships were easy winners from France (72 points), with Belgium (100 points) third.
Frank Norris, 37 year old England Champion from Bolton, Lanes. led from the start, inspiring his team mates with a run-way 50 yards victory over team mate Sando in 42 min. 44.8 secs.
Nine countries, Belgium, England, France, Ireland, Morocco, Portugal, Scotland, Spain ad Wales, were represented in the gruelling nine-mile test of stamina. The course - one small starting lap around the National Stadium and seen full laps between Lisbon and the nearby resort of Estoril, - mainly rough riding paths. Only obstacles were three moderate sized ditches and a 20-yard patch of thick mud.
