    The city of Ining, bordering the Soviet Union, is the capital of the Sinkiang Ili Kazak Autonomous 'Chou' in northwest China.

    Before liberation, Ining was a dilapidated city with no modern buildings at all. It has gained a completely new appearance during the 15 years since liberation.

    Big department stores line Stalin Ave. With the development of production, Ining is becoming more prosperous and busy by the year.

    In recent years, orchards on the city outskirts have been enlarged. The fruit harvest this year is again a very good one, and commercial departments are making purchasing easier for consumers by setting up temporary fruit stands on the pavements.

    Living standards are going up year with the rise in production. The number of people with savings and bank deposits are increasing continuously.

    Ining is inhabited by 13 nationalities, among whom are the Kazaks and the Uighurs. Under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, they are working together to build up China's border regions.
