    THE SILVER METEOR, ONE OF THE SEABOARD AIR LINE RAILROAD'S CRACK TRAINS, DERAILED NEAR ULMERS, SOUTH CAROLINE STREWING SIXTEEN OF THE 19 STREAMLINED CARS INTO A SHALLOW RAVINE. THE RAVINE HELPED CONTAIN THE ZIG-ZAGGING CARS. THE TRAIN HAD 350 PASSENGERS ON BOARD, MOST OF THEM RETURNING FROM WINTER VACATIONS IN FLORIDA (SOUTHEASTERN USA).

    NEARLY TWO THOUSAND FEET OF TRACK WAS TORN UP BY THE ACCIDENT. RAILROAD OFFICIALS EXPECTED TO RESUME FULL OPERATIONS BY MONDAY (1 JUNE). THEY SAID THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE TO LEARN THE CAUSE OF DERAILMENT BUT RULED OUT SABOTAGE.
