  • Description

In the Camden area, south west of Sydney, an easing of the floods on the Nepean River this afternoon gave civil defence workers some relief. The authorities had been anticipating one of the biggest floods in 25-years as the Nepean rose at its fastest ever rate, at times two-feet an hour. People were moved from more than 20-homes in low lying streets as the situation worsened. But between three and four o'clock this afternoon, the levels remained static. Camden tonight is surrounded by more than three-thousand acres of water. More than one-hundred cattle are marooned on farmland adjacent to the town area despite civil defence efforts during the day to rescue them.
