  • Description

The former Japanese army sergeant, Shoichi Yokoi, who hid on Guam for 27 years after world war two ended, before being found last February, married in Nagoya on Friday (3 November).

He married Mihoko Hatashin, 44, at the Atsuta Shrine in front of about 70 guests, and almost as many newsmen.

Both the bride and the bridegroom wore kilomons for their wedding in the traditional Japanese Shinto style.

During a later news conference, Mr. Yokoi announced that he wanted to open a tailor's stop in Nagoya City. He also said he did not intend to go on a honeymoon trip because he wanted to see the outcome of the search for another Japanese soldier in Lupang Island in the Philippines.
