  • Description

Visnews went to the poll stations in Neunkirch village, Switzerland, Jan 15, where most of the women decided to vote 'No' to voting.

Switzerland is the last country in Europe denying voting rights to women.

Neunkirch is a test village in the forthcoming national poll by men - next month. They will say whether they think their womenfolk should have the right to vote on Federal affairs.

This village jumped the gun; decided to ask its women first what they thought of voting. The village has a population of 1320. Only 340 are women and of these 244 went to the poll, held at the village school house.

For some 30 years a hard core of women in Switzerland have tried to edge their way into political equality. But most women have said they are not interested in political affairs. Neunkirch proved their point.
