    INVESTIGATORS TONIGHT (THURSDAY) PROBED THE WRECKAGE OF A CRASHED MOROCCAN AIRCRAFT WHILE DOCTORS IN CASABLANCA FOUGHT TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THE 21 SURVIVORS. SIXTY ONE PEOPLE DIED YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) WHEN THE PLANE CRASHED AND EXPLODED IN A WHEAT FIELD WHILE COMING IN TO LAND AT CASABLANCA AIRPORT.

    OFFICIALS HAVE RECOVERED THE FLIGHT RECORDER FROM THE WRECKAGE. IT HAS BEEN SENT TO PARIS FOR FURTHER STUDY.

    AIRPORT AUTHORITIES TODAY ADMITTED THAT THE DISASTER WAS TREATED AS AN APRIL FOOLS DAY JOKE AT FIRST. HOWEVER RESCUE TEAMS WERE AT THE CRASH SCENE WITHIN TEN MINUTES OF THE PLANE COMING DOWN, ABOUT 25 MILES (40 KMS) SOUTH OF CASABLANCA.

    AN EYEWITNESS SAID THE AIRCRAFT...A ROYAL MOROCCAN AIRLINES CARAVELLE JET....PLUMMETED INTO A WHEAT FIELD BESIDE A FARM TRACK WHILE MAKING ITS FINAL APPROACH TO THE AIRPORT. IT BROKE IN TWO WHEN IT HIT THE GROUND AND EXPLODED. ALL THE 21 SURVIVORS WERE IN THE TAIL SECTION WHICH REMAINED INTACT.

    TWENTY FIVE INJURED WERE PULLED FROM THE WRECKAGE, BUT FOUR DIED ON THE WAY TO HOSPITAL. DOCTORS WAY THAT SEVERAL OF THE SURVIVORS ARE IN A CRITICAL CONDITION.
