    Following Cuban Premier Castro's ending of the 'emergency', and the demobilisation of militia recruited to oppose the expected 'invasion' by American forces, troops were busy Jan. 21 removing guns from the roofs of hotels and villas along Havana's seafront.

    400,000 Cubans rushed to join the militia after Premier Castro Jan. 1 announced an imminent invasion of American forces, sponsored by outgoing President Eisenhower. Field, anti-aircraft, and machine guns were installed all along Havana's seafront as they readied themselves to repel the 'invaders' Nineteen days later Premier Castro announced the end of the "emergency" with the inauguration of President Kennedy, praised the militiamen's courage, and sent them home to their civilian jobs.

    One of the buildings used as a machine-gun emplacement was the British Embassy. Despite vigorous protests, militiamen continued their vigil from the roof until removed Jan. 21
    Soon after filming these scenes, our cameraman in Havana and his wife- Mr and Mrs Oxley - were arrested but later released. This is the second time that Mr Oxley - a British subject - has been detained by police in the past two months.
