Background: Despite the red-hot tension on the island, Governor Foot permitted "Oohi" Day celebrations in cyprus on October 28 --- the eighteenth anniversary of the Greek "no" to Mussolini's ultimatum of 1940.

All Greek-Cypriot establishments took the day off and celebrated the event with parades and church services. The main parade was in Nicosia where the Bishop of Ketium, the Mayor and the Greek Consul lead the celebration.

The day's festivities ended peacefully --- no bombs, shooting or riots.
