    Tonights opening (25th) of the Venice film festival was postponed at the last moment until tuesday in the face of a planned take-over by left-wing film directors and students.

    The mayor of Venice, Giovanni Favetto-Fisca, announced the postponement after the festival director Professor Liugi Chiarini put the festival in his hands.

    In a dramatic announcement tonight (25th) Ghiarini disclosed that two of the directors leaders approached him late last night and threatened that if he did not submit to their take-over they would "Create situations in which someone might even get killed.

    In a letter to the mayor Prof Chiarini - who has previously insisted at holding the festival at all costs- "said he did not want to take the responsibility for "tragic circumstances arising from a tragic farce. Before handing over the responsibility prof. Chiarini gave orders that gave orders that festival was to be postponed_but he did not specify till when.
