MILLING CROWDS WAITING TO SEE DISPLAYS ON BOARD THE AUSTRALIAN TRADE MISSION SHIP "CENTAUR", GOT OUT OF HAND ON MARCH 21, -- LAST DAY OF HER FIVE-DAY VISIT TO SINGAPORE.

EARLIER, THOUSANDS HAD QUEUED BEHIND BARRIERS SET UP AT THE HARBOUR WHARF IN HAPPY MOOD. WHEN ONE BARRIER COLLAPSED, THEY SURGED TOWARDS THE PASSENGER CREW GANGWAY AND BOARDED THE SHIP.

HARBOUR POLICE, CALLED IN TO CONTROL THE CROWD, WERE PELTED WITH TORN INVITATION CARDS AND LITTLE PIECES OF PAPER. THE SHIP'S OFFICERS PULLED UP BOTH GANGWAYS.

DURING THE CENTAUR'S VISIT HERE, TWENTY THOUSAND BUSINESSMEN AND VISITORS SAW THE LARGEST DISPLAY OF GOODS AND SERVICES FROM AUSTRALIA.

THE CENTAUR, ON A SIX-WEEK TOUR OF SOUTH-EAST ASIAN PORTS, LEFT SINGAPORE FOR BANGKOK, MANILA, HONGKONG AND JAPAN.
