    SEVEN MEN ARE FEARED TO HAVE DIED IN A FIRE TODAY (SATURDAY) ABOARD A LIBERIAN TANKER IN MARSEILLES DOCK AREA.

    THE FIRE WAS ABOARD THE TANKER OLYMPIC HONOUR, IN MARSEILLES FOR REPAIRS. THE FIRE BEGAN AFTER AN EXPLOSION IN THE ENGINE ROOM OF THE TANKER.

    FLAMES FROM THE SHIP SOARED ONE HUNDRED FEET INTO THE AIR AS FIREMEN FROM MANY PARTS OF MARSEILLES BATTLED WITH THE BLAZE.

    FIRE SPREAD FROM THE 20-THOUSAND TON TANKER TO THE HARBOUR AS DURING OIL FLOWED ACROSS THE WATER. OTHER SHIPS IN THE DOCK WERE MOVED TO SAFETY AND ALL PEOPLE IN THE DOCKS WERE EVACUATED.

    THIRTY MEN - INCLUDING A NUMBER OF FIREMEN - WERE INJURED IN THE FIRE.

    THE FIRE BURNED IN ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL AS MOST OF OLYMPIC HONOUR'S TANKS WERE EMPTY. THE FIRE WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL ONLY AFTER SEVERAL HOURS.
