Watched by a large crowd and before members of the Government and other dignitaries, the Prince received his insignia of office, the 'Burnou', from the President of the Republic, M. Tombalbaye. A former member of parliament, the new Sultan succeeds his father, who died last April.
In a speech before the installation, which took place in front of the new Sultan's home, the Prefect of Chari Baguirmi, M. Bakari Diallo, stressed the uninterrupted history of the Sultan of Baguirmi, whose line dates back to the 16th century.
