The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester after 10 days' touring in Ethiopia and Somalia had a brief and busy two days in the British Protectorate of Aden Nov 25-25.

The Duke - he is the elder member of Britain's royal family - had a good view of the Aden peninsular as he flew in from Somalia with the Duchess. They could also see in the distance neighbouring Yemen where there were recent skirmishes with border tribesman backed by the military on both sides.

The royal couple visited the RAF station, Khormaksar, Aden, and were met by the Governor and his daughter. He inspected a guard of honour, saw aircraft and the operation rooms. Later he left with an armoured car escort.

The Duke in Army uniform left Government House to inspect British and Arab Forces. He was escorted by an Aden Protectorate Levies camel party to the Sedaseer Lines where he was met by a guard of honour mounted by the levies. he watched troops on exercise and visited the training section.

The Duke also visited the military camp at Mukeiras near the Yemeni border where he watched manoeuvres.

The Duchess on an independent programme visited servicewomen's establishments, hospitals and a college and toured the harbour by launch. After a cocktail party at Government House they left by air for Britain.
