Whilst walking round the streets of Moscow, our camera-man, Sepp Riff, witnessed a new trend in Russian fashions. He was gazing at the Lenin Mausoleum, watching crowds of Russians, from all parts of the country, respectfully entering and leaving the shrine of that great Russian leader, when he was jerked out of his daydreaming by two policemen. It wasn't what they did but what they wore.
One the one hand there was the old police uniform------- battle-dress type jacket, breeches and jackboots, with leather belt----- and the new one ----- open neck jacket, and no belt, collar and tie, and rather baggy trousers.
The effect of the latest change of uniform is that the police look a little less sinister and more approachable if you want to know the time.
