THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF ACCRA, THE GHANAIAN CAPITAL, YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) IN SUPPORT OF PRESIDENT NKRUMAH'S DISMISSAL ON WEDNESDAY OF SIR ARKU KORSAH AS GHANA'S CHIEF JUSTICE AND IN PROTEST AGAINST THE RECENT TREASON TRIAL VERDICT.

THE DEMONSTRATION, ORGANISED BY THE RULING CONVENTION PEOPLE'S PARTY, WAS THE LATEST IN A SERIES OF PROTEST MARCHES IN MANY PARTS OF GHANA WHICH FOLLOWED THE SPECIAL COURT'S VERDICT ON MONDAY ACQUITTING THE THREE PRINCIPAL ACCUSED, INCLUDING TWO FORMER MINISTERS, AND SENTENCING TWO OTHERS TO DEATH.

THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED PLACARDS READING: "THE MASSES KNOW THAT THEY ARE GUILTY," AND "THE JUDGES HAVE LET THE NATION DOWN."
SIR ARKU, 69, WAS PRESIDENT OF THE COURT WHICH FOUND THE FORMER MINISTERS NOT GUILTY. NO REASON WAS GIVEN FOR HIS DISMISSAL TWO DAYS LATER.
