  • Description

ABOUT 25,000 FOREIGN TOURISTS ARE EXPECTED TO VISIT TRIPOLI DURING THE NEXT THREE WEEKS TO VISIT THE INTERNATIONAL FAIR, WHICH WAS OPENED YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) BY THE LIBYAN PRIME MINISTER MR. WANIS EL QADDAFI.

THE OPENING OF THE FAIR WAS ATTENDED BY SEVERAL MINISTERS OF THE LIBYA GOVERNMENT, INCLUDING THE MINISTER FOR ECONOMY, MR. AHMED YUNIS NEJIM WHO WELCOMED THE TRADE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE COUNTRIES WITH STANDS AT THE FAIR.

HUNDREDS OF FIRMS FROM 30 COUNTRIES ARE TAKING PART. EACH COUNTRY HAS A PAVILION IN THE 10 HECTARE (25 ACRES) EXHIBITION GROUND. SOME COUNTRIES ARE PARTICIPATING FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHILE OTHERS HAVE REBUILT AND REDECORATED THEIR PAVILIONS. THE LIBYA MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY HAS THIS YEAR DOUBLED IT'S OWN EXHIBITION SPACE AND WILL BE DISPLAYING IN TWO PAVILIONS. THEY ARE PLACING PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON NEW AND DEVELOPING INDUSTRIES.

THE PALESTINE LIBERATION MOVEMENT HAS ALSO ITS OWN PAVILION WHICH FEATURES A SMALL BOY DRESSED AS A GUERRILLA WHO HANDED OUT LEAFLETS.

THIS IS THE EIGHT YEAR THAT THE FAIR, THE LARGEST OF IT'S KIND IN AFRICA, HAS BEEN HELD. IT WAS ESTABLISHED BY ROYAL DECREE IN 1959, WITH A BOARD OF DIRECTIONS AND A GENERAL MANAGER APPOINTED BY THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS.
