  • Description

A 34-man North Korean Red Cross delegation arrived in Panmunjom truce village yesterday (Tuesday), enroute for the South Korean Capital of Seoul where they will hold talks with their southern counterparts on the future of families divided since the Korean War armistice of 1953.

The delegation - headed by Vice Chairman Kim Tae-hui of the North Korean Red Cross Central Committee - comprises seven delegates, seven advises and 20 assistants. They are also accompanied by a 20-man press contingent. They were met in Panmunjom by Southern Chief Delegate Lee Bum-Suk and other members of the South Korean Red Cross delegation.

This round of talks is the second on the subject of the divided families - the first as held on August 30th in Pyongyang, the Capital of North Korea. The talks are attempting to find a formula that will allow the reunion of an estimated ten million people.

The arrival of the North Koreans brought out thousands of curious sightseers - as they are the first northerners to officially enter the South since World War II.
