    Ile Sumirat of Indonesia on Saturday night (March 27) won the men's single title of the first Asian Invitational Badminton Championships defeating China's Hou Chang-chia 12-15, 15-81 18-15 in 58 minutes of power-packed shuttle action.

    The marathon test of skill and endurance ended as the 26-year-old Bandung-born Sumirat overcame the veteran Chinese ace in a nerve-wracking 28-minute rubber set watched by 12,000 spectators at Bangkok's Hua Mark Indoor stadium.

    The women's singles title went to China as favorite and to??? seed Liang Chiu-hsia, though stretched to three sets, beat Indonesia's 18-year-old student contender Verawaty 8-11, 11-0, 11-5, in 34 minutes.

    But the Indonesians edged the Chinese in this first tournament organized by the Asian Badminton Confrontation (ABC), as Christian Hadinata and Ade Chandra outclassed Tang Hsien-hu and Luan Chin in 25 minutes.

    Malaysia won the fourth title in the 11-nation tournament as Sylva Ng and Rosalind Singha Ang beat Thailand's Thongkam Kingmanee and Patama Sirisiiro in the women's double.
